Mid-Devon Spring Peals and Quarter Peals
This season's Mid-Devon Tower Talk contains more first or significant quarter peals than any previous ones – great news for ringing in the branch
Quarter peal day to mark the 150 Anniversary.
This was organised by Mike Wigney principally to give quarter peal experience to several Bovey area ringers. The first at Bickington called by Robert Law produced a first quarter for Jon Grimes on the Tenor. https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=1710665

Birthday Peal
Probably unique, within our branch at least, Kingkerswell has three ringers who have birthdays on the same day. Mo and Philip Stevens are one year apart but Mo and Pauline Lawrence are the same age and were 80 this year. It was felt that this could not be allowed to pass uncelebrated by ringers, so a peal attempt was organised. The method was a variation on Yorkshire surprise Major called Criccieth Castle. It was very successful and also allowed Philip to add another year to his list of peals and he has now rung at least one peal on 65 consecutive years. Many congratulations to them all. There was a chance to catch up over refreshments kindly produced by Mo and Pauline after the peal – very much appreciated and enjoyed by the band. https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=1726646

Anyone familiar with the Kingskerswell ringers will not be surprised to hear that celebrations continued the following afternoon at Mo and Philip's house!
Quarter Peal at Teignmouth
What a pleasure to report further progress at Teignmouth – it is very clear that the ringers have really worked hard since the sudden loss of tower captain Martin Dodd and other members of the team. They were keen to mark the 150th anniversary of the Guild and on Sunday 28th April they rang a quarter peal at St James, Teignmouth with a local band. Very many congratulations to them – a great effort. https://bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=1725837
Another First Quarter
We are delighted to report on another Quarter Peal. Mark Claxton who rings at Brixham / Churston is a regular visitor to Berry Pomeroy practices so Mike Tompsett decided to set up a quarter peal attempt for him to ring his first Quarter peal. This was successful. Congratulations to him and to Mike for a masterful piece of conducting!
