Stedman Students in Plymouth - Saturday 17 September 2011.

Stedman Triples is a principle which is not always easily grasped, but the six students on the Guild training day made excellent progress with it. Jo even turned up in a tee-shirt emblazoned “I love F.S (Fabian Stedman)”. I’m sure he would have been pleased to know he had such a following!

The students form the front row of the photo, left to right: Janet Osler, Amy Gill, Jo Maddick, Gwyrie Mossop, Brenda Coley and Wendy Gill.

Saturday 17th September was the day and Plymouth the location. The morning session took place at Laira, where there was a constant supply of refreshments, and Plympton St Maurice followed a good lunch at the George Inn.

Ian Smith tutored the day with well prepared paperwork, taking the students through Cloister Triples to practice the back work, and Stedman Doubles to refresh the front work, before putting it all together, and moving on to touches in the afternoon. Lunchtime was used to reinforce learning, and there was some impromptu advice for helpers who wished to call touches.

Thanks to Julia House and Janet Farrage for the towers, Ian for leading the day, and the ten helpers for filling in time and again so willingly. A few loose coins were contributed to the Devon bell fund whenever a tired helper went wrong themselves!

Lynne Hughes.
