Young Ringers' Spring Outing.
March 2010
On 27th
March eleven young ringers from across the county had an outing in
East Devon in the warm spring sunshine, assisted by numerous
parents and other helpers. Ten year old Gareth even rang with a
broken arm in plaster. The three towers were all light, easy going
sixes, with some young ringers getting round the back end for the
first time, taking charge of the calling where possible, and
ringing from rounds to Grandsire, Stedman and Cambridge. It was
good to see two very novice ringers venturing away from their home
towers and experiencing different bells.

Dalwood church; having fun at Farway; and
eating all the biscuits!
The morning
started at Offwell and continued at Dalwood, with Easter Biscuits
as sustenance in between. Over 20 people descended on the pub,
which had no record of our booking, and mayhem ensued as tables
were hastily re-arranged and all were eventually fed. But the
trouble was not over, the landlady collaring a carload as they
tried to leave, over the unpaid meal of one of the party! It later
transpired that the meal had been paid for so all was well.

games in the churchyard at Farway between ringing cemented old
friendships and formed new. The day ended with Laurie and Amy
playing the organ at Farway: we were expecting a basic tune or two
and were blown away by the musical accomplishments of the pair.

The Young Ringers
Thanks to
the local bands and incumbents for the use of the bells, to all
who came and to all who helped on the day.
