Guild
Training Day - Stedman Triples.
Saturday 20 July 2002.
Five
"Stedman novices" met at Heavitree church in the morning
of the training day, all eager to get learning. The theory session
was first on the agenda. This was an informal introduction to
Stedman showing the construction of the two different types of
sixes and other things such
as how to know which way to go in to the front, and what happens
at bobs and singles.
Then it was
time for the first real test. Had they learnt anything from the
theory session? Indeed they had, and the first practical session
on the fine 25cwt eight at Heavitree proved very successful.
All the students rang touches with singles (easier than bobs)
without any trouble.
Social and
relaxing times during intensive training is very important,
and a super lunch at the Royal Oak allowed for a rest and a chance
to recuperate. The afternoon session was on the easy bells
at St Marks and all students continued to progress, all ringing
touches with odd bobs and singles before the brain power faded
away to nothing!
Thanks as
always to the organiser, Martin Mansley, to Wendy Campbell for
providing the much needed caffeine so early in the morning, and
all the helpers for ringing solidly and (virtually) tirelessly all
day.
