Ringers visit Lundy.
Saturday 6 July 2002.
At 8.15am on
Saturday morning 15 ringers and many friends gathered at
Ilfracombe pier to board the MS Oldenburg to Lundy. Some had
travelled the night before enabling a slightly later start than
those that drove from the Exeter area that morning.
The boat
departed on time for a relatively smooth crossing lasting nearly 2
hours. Once on the island, the long, steep winding path to the top
was the first hurdle. We gathered at the church of St Helena to
ring 2 quarter peals back to back. Both were successful - now we
could enjoy the rest of the day.
Next stop
was of course the Marisco Tavern for a pint and some excellent
food. The sun was shining so many people went for a walk, although
some took the option of a more leisurely stroll! As people
scattered themselves around the island we were able to enjoy the
peace and tranquillity the island provides.
All to soon
it was time for the return journey. Fortunately another smooth
crossing! Thanks, Peter, for arranging a great day.
