Exeter
Branch Train Outing - Monday 3 May 2010.
Jenny Young writes...
There was no lie-in for the Exeter Branch
ringers on May Day bank holiday as we set off on this years train
outing to North Devon. From various stations between Digby and
Crediton we boarded the train to Barnstaple where a coach was
waiting to take us to our first tower, Great Torrington. Luckily
we arrived early enough for a quick coffee at Dartington Crystal
before the ringing which set the standard for the day ranging from
rounds and call changes to Glasgow Surprise Major.
The next stop was Bideford where we had
lunch and nearly everyone managed a Hockings ice-cream despite the
chilly wind! We were slightly late setting off for the next tower
due to some slow service at lunch but the time was not wasted as
some members of the group took the opportunity to entertain us
with handbell ringing.

The afternoon saw ringing at Appledore,
Northam and Pilton before catching the train back to Exeter where
a delay at St David’s station provided a much needed cup of tea
break! The day’s excitement was not over, however, thanks to
Gareth who managed to get stuck in the toilet on the train back to
Digby - luckily we didn’t have to leave him there!
Thanks to everyone for attending and
particularly to Heather for organising such an enjoyable day.
