Liverpool
and Manchester - Exeter Cathedral Ringers September 2003.
By
Pauline Champion.
Following
our sojourn on the Isle of Wight last autumn, this year Matt
decided to coax us further afield with a long weekend in
Lancashire, based in Liverpool. The warm sunny weather was duly
booked and 20-odd Exeter Cathedral ringers and friends installed
at the Campanile Hotel (what a great name!) by the Queen's Dock.
This made an excellent base as its within a very short walk of The
Baltic Fleet, probably the best pub in Liverpool.
The
ringing started well with a peal at Accrington on Friday
afternoon; quarters and Heywood and Walkden were also successful,
though reduced to minor because of a bout of gippy tummy - bad
luck Tim!
On
Saturday and Sunday there were some superb bells for us to sample
– Manchester (Town Hall and Cathedral), Ashton-under-Lyne,
Worsley and St Nick's Pier Head, before the (extremely high)
highlight of Liverpool Cathedral. Here we enjoyed the rare
privilege of ringing on bells heavier than our own and made good
use of our time.
